BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription injectable treatment used to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, also known as glabellar lines, in adults.

BOTOX® Cosmetic works by temporarily reducing the nerve signals that cause targeted muscles to contract. This decreases the muscle activity that contributes to the formation of noticeable lines between the brows.

Because facial anatomy and muscle movement are different for every patient, Dr. Siri Sarva carefully evaluates where BOTOX® Cosmetic should be administered based on your individual features and treatment goals.

For patients who would like to soften moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, BOTOX® Cosmetic provides a temporary treatment option without surgery.

What Is the Treatment Process?

Treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic is generally straightforward. From your initial consultation through the injections and aftercare, our team will explain what to expect and answer your questions along the way.

Before BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatment

Your first step is a consultation with Dr. Sarva to determine whether BOTOX® Cosmetic is appropriate for you.

During your consultation:

• Talk with Dr. Sarva about the areas you would like to address and what you hope to achieve with treatment.
• Dr. Sarva may ask you to move certain facial muscles so she can evaluate the muscles around the brow and determine appropriate treatment areas.
• Because the location, size, and movement of these muscles can vary from person to person, your treatment will be planned around your individual facial anatomy.
• You will have an opportunity to ask questions about the procedure and discuss what you can expect from treatment.
• Dr. Sarva will review your goals with you and develop a treatment plan based on your needs.

During BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatment

BOTOX® Cosmetic is administered through a series of small injections into carefully selected muscles.

• Anesthesia is usually not necessary. If needed, a cold pack or topical numbing cream may be used to make the injections more comfortable.
• Dr. Sarva will place small amounts of BOTOX® Cosmetic into the muscles responsible for the frown lines being treated.
• Most patients experience only brief discomfort during the injections.
• The injection process is typically completed within a short office visit.

After BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatment

Most patients can return to their usual daily activities after treatment.

• Our clinical team will provide instructions for what to do after your injections.
• You may experience temporary effects around the injection sites, such as tenderness, discomfort, redness, swelling, bruising, or minor bleeding.
• Dr. Sarva will review any precautions or follow-up recommendations that apply to your treatment.

As with any prescription treatment, BOTOX® Cosmetic can cause side effects. Dr. Sarva will review the potential risks, benefits, and important safety information with you before treatment so you can make an informed decision about your care.
